Staple Scholarships

As a replacement to Nuffield Scholarships, the Charity is looking to establish its own scholarships. To that end Jayne Harkness-Bone has been awarded a Special Staple Scholarship. In March 2025 she was awarded £5000 to study “The Wool Supply Chain – how better communications and market feedback could improve returns for wool producers”. She is planning to travel to the top 5 wool producing countries in the world – China, Australia, NZ, Turkey and UK and will produce a report in August 2026

Jayne is a farmer/primary producer and works part time for British Wool in their Ulster depot. She is studying for a PhD in a wool related topic.

Additionally, the Charity has awarded a special Staple Bursary of £2000 to Emma Craig. She is the Senior Engagement Manager (Beef and Lamb) at the Agricultural and Horticultural Development Board and has successfully applied for a place on the Worshipful Company of Farmers Challenge of Rural Leadership Course in January. She holds an important knowledge exchange role in the sheep industry and we will be helping her enhance vital  leadership skills.
